Wind for Ontario
About
The Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm is an 18 MW community-owned wind project located in Norwich, ON. It is jointly owned by Prowind Inc., Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation, and the Oxford Community Energy Co-operative. Construction began on the wind farm in November of 2015 after receiving approval from the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change in April of 2015. The construction process saw the use of Ontario manufactured materials for at least 50% of the project and the generation of approximately 200 jobs throughout construction and development. The project consists of 10 individual Senvion MM92 turbines, each producing 1.8 MW of electricity, for a total output of 18 MW. The Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm began commercially operating on November 14, 2016 and now powers approximately 6700 homes in the surrounding area with clean energy.
The project will also provide $25,000 annually to a community fund for local initiatives, which totals $500,000 over the 20 years of scheduled operation for the wind farm. For further information, please visit our Community Fund page.
Gunn’s Hill Wind Farm is owned by Gunn’s Hill Limited Partnership. The three limited partners are Oxford Community Energy Co-operative, Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and Prowind Inc.
